Privacy Policy for I Ching: Wisdom of the Soul

1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing I Ching: Wisdom of the Soul ("we," "our," or "the App"). The App is a guided reflection journal that uses classical I Ching texts as a mirror for thought — not fortune-telling or prediction. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.

By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use the App.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

Reflection / journal data:

• Prompts & questions: When you begin a reflection, you may enter text about what is on your mind. Stored locally on your device (and in the cloud if you link an account — see §3.2).
• Notes: Personal notes you add to reflections are stored on your device (and cloud if registered).
• History: Your journal of past reflections is stored on your device (and cloud if registered).

Settings and preferences (all stored locally unless synced with your account): language, theme, coin ritual method, notification preferences, shake sensitivity.

2.2 Automatically Collected Information

Firebase Analytics: We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand app usage:

• Device information (model, OS version, screen resolution, language)
• App usage (screen views, feature usage, navigation patterns, version)
• Performance data (load times, crash reports)
• Analytics events (reflection started/completed, hexagram viewed, favorites, exports, settings — not the content of your journal text)

Google Mobile Ads (AdMob): Optional rewarded ads for free-tier users (e.g. an extra reflection after the daily free one). Premium subscribers are never shown ads. Google may collect advertising identifiers and ad interaction metrics.

2.3 What We DO NOT Collect

• ❌ Personal identifying information by default (name, email, phone) — unless you voluntarily register
• ❌ Location data, contact lists, photos, or media files
• ❌ Payment card details (subscriptions are handled by Apple/Google and RevenueCat)

3. Data Storage and Security

3.1 Local Storage

Reflection prompts, notes, and journal history for guest users are stored locally on your device. They are not shared with third parties for marketing and are removed when you uninstall the app or clear app data (subject to cloud copies if you registered).

3.2 Cloud Storage (Registered Users)

Users who link an email account may have readings synchronized via Firebase Firestore. Guest users store reflections only on the device. Cloud readings are accessible only to that account. Signing out does not delete cloud readings; signing back in restores them.

3.3 AI-Generated Interpretations

Reflection interpretations may be generated with artificial intelligence. We do not use your personal prompts to train AI models. No team member reviews your questions for content moderation of interpretations in the ordinary course. AI responses are generated in real time to fulfill your request.

3.4 Sage Chat

The App includes an AI reflective companion ("the Sage"). Unlike on-device journal entries, chat messages are processed and stored on our servers (Cloudflare infrastructure) so conversations can continue:

• Messages and replies are stored linked to an internal user identifier, not necessarily your name or email.
• Replies use AI models on Cloudflare. Messages are not used to train AI models.
• Premium may include long-term memory summaries of preferences/topics you share, to personalize later chats.
• Messages may be analyzed by automated moderation; exceptional manual review is possible to prevent abuse.
• You can permanently delete chat conversations and memory from Settings → "Delete chat data".

3.5 Firebase / Google Services

Analytics and advertising data may be transmitted to Google. Data is anonymized/aggregated where applicable, subject to Google's policies, and typically retained ~14 months for Analytics (Firebase defaults).

3.6 Security Measures

• HTTPS for network communications
• Local storage protections and regular updates
• Code protections appropriate to mobile apps

4. Third-Party Services

• Google Firebase Analytics — usage and performance
• Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) — optional rewarded ads
• Firebase Auth / Firestore — optional account and sync
• Cloudflare — Sage chat backend
• Apple / Google / RevenueCat — in-app purchases (they process payment data)

5. Your Rights and Choices

• Access and export journal data from the App where available
• Delete history and notes in App settings
• Delete chat data permanently from Settings
• Uninstall the App or clear app data
• GDPR/CCPA rights for eligible users — contact [email protected]

We do not sell personal information.

6. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will delete it.

7. Data Retention

• Local data: until you delete it or uninstall
• Cloud readings (registered): until you delete them or request deletion
• Chat data: until you delete chat data in Settings
• Analytics: typically 14 months (Firebase default)

8. International Transfers

Information may be processed in countries other than your own (including Google and Cloudflare infrastructure). By using the App you acknowledge these transfers as described here and in third-party policies.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. We will post the new policy (in the App and/or at this URL) and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
